SVEIN TRONDSON was born, probably at Skredtveit in 1669, about the time his grandfather, SVEIN MIKKELSON, died. The farm belonged to his grandfather at that time. SVEIN TRONDSON was a tenant farmer at Åse. In 1702 he received a deed to the farm. In addition, he received the meadow to the south and several cabins. In 1710, SVEIN and his wife ÅSE HALVORSDOTTER were forced to sue Guri Jonsdotter over use of Åse. Guri was ÅSE's aunt and she was SVEIN's sister-in-law, being the wife of his brother Odd. Guri, through her guardian Olav Håtveit, claimed Åse was a good two-man farm. The judgement concluded otherwise, citing that the woods were extremely overcleared. Guri was forced to accept 465 rd for her farming rights. From 1709 to 1711, SVEIN was a church warden. The church property was sold to the common people in 1724. Four years later, in 1728, SVEIN bought the property for his own use. Probate was held in 1750, after SVEIN died. In addition to land at Åse, Håtveit Nedre and Ringestoga, there was silver and copper. His estate was valued at 735 rd. |
