Torbjørn Sondreson Svalastoga (1634-Sk.1708) from Grungedal came to the farm from Åse 8 about 1661. His wife's name was Kristi Tarjeisdtr and she got a mortgage on 1 tnK at Haugehåtveit from Knut Knutson in 1655 for 147 rd. They paid Gunnar Bjåland 20 rd so that Talleiv and Mari would get to use 1 tnK at Bjåland. In addition they also paid 20 rd and 2 spring cows in order to get Haugehåtveit. In addition to this farm they also owned land in Tortveit, Nedgarden, Onsaker, Åmli and Lien, totally 2 and 1 quarter tnK. Talleiv Bjåland sued in 1668 for the use of Haugehåtveit. An agreement was reached again that Torbjørn would pay 36 rd for the farm, but after Mari Bjåland was dead, the heirs had to pay the money back.

Torbjørn Sondreson had himself rights to Haugehåtveit. His father, Sondre Oddson Svalastoga owned land at the farm before him. We have not a clue how this was, but a bumerket [signature mark "X" of an illiterate person] of Torbjørn was quite similar to that of Halvor Haugehåtveit 3.

Torbjørn bought out Olav Nikulsson in 1674 for 100 rd and was then the sole owner of the entire farm. In 1677 he sold ½ tnK of Hærstad to Rolv Gunleikson Hærstad for 60 rd. This must have been inheritance that Gunhild Olavsdtr Haugehåtveit got at the estate settlement in 1669 after Gro Gunleiksdtr Hærstad died. Three years later he was involved in a lawsuit concerning Fiskemostrand in Vinje together with Steinar Nylende.

Around 1684 Torbjørn moved to Svalastoga, but was in 1706 sued by Nikuls Olavson Homme who wanted to buy Haugehåtveit. It then was decided that Nikuls should have 150 rd for the allodial rights. Torbjørn and his children acquired the farm.

Olav Halvorson Ringestoga 8 from Tortveit in Fyresdal paid in 1643 førstebygsel [fee paid when a farm is acquired] for half of Åse, probably it was he who paid tredjebygsel [fee paid every three years for renewing a lease] in 1652 together with Gunnar. Olav is not named in the skattelistene [tax rolls] for the farm. In spite of this Olav Åse is listed with land property in Lie, Fyresdal (1 tnK), Tortveit (1 tn 3 notK) and Åmli (½ tnK). In the years 1651 to 1653 he also had 7 tnK in Namnløs and ½ tnK in "Ormbli" (Åmli?). He or his wife must have been closely related to Gunnar Åse.

Olav was probably married to Kristi Tarjeisdtr. She got a mortgage on Haugehåtveit in 1655 and married Torbjørn Åse 8 after her husband died around 1653.

Torbjørn is named in the skattelistene [tax rolls] one year in 1655-56. In 1656 he had land in Kvassaker (½ tnK), Åmli (½ tnK), Tortveit (½ tnK) and Lie (½ tnK). This was most of the land after Olav Åse 7 died. He was married to the widow Kristi Tarjeisdtr. Torbjørn was called Torbjørn Sondreson (1634-Sk.1708) and was from Svalastoga in Vinje. He is listed together with a Talleiv Åse concerning 4 tnK in Åse (?) in 1658. From 1661 we find him at Haugehåtveit 8. Åse was then a judge's residence.

From old times the name may have been Vætingr, taken from vatr or vatn [lake or water]. This indicates that the land was swampy and marshy.

In more recent time we find Nikuls and Asbjørn, who probably were tenant farmers. First with Tallak in 1611 we will believe we have a son after Jon dies. The 1615 Matrikkelen [tax rolls] reports Tarjei Væting as the owner of 2 tnK at the farm while Gunhild Nape had 2 mK.

There is no more to find about Tallak after this. Perhaps he died without heirs. Tarjei Jonson took over Væting. He had the farm from 1626. Tarjei was among the 14 farmers in Fyresdal who in 1636 paid to the "chaplain's subsistance in the north lands". From the 1640's we can see that he paid tax for 3 tnK at Væting and 1 tnK at Eiken. It is therefore likely he used Eiken along with Væting.

Tarjei was a skysskaffar [a person who provides transportation by horse-drawn wagon] several years and over time accumulated more and more land. In this way, he had 1 tnK at Eiken, ½ tnK at Nape, 1 tnK at Austjord, ½ tn 1 mK at Fjalestad and 2 tn 4 mK at Væting in 1657. It was Olav Halvorson Ringestoga who had the rest of the farm, (and) later Åse in Mo. The Olav who was co-user and owner of Væting about 1647, may have been Olav Halvorson. Olav's wife was named Kristi Tarjeisdtr and could have been the daughter of Tarjei.

Not long before the 1664 census Tarjei Jonson died. The farm was then divided into two equal large parts between his son Jon and his nephew Jon Kjetilson.
