Biography

JOSEPH WAKEMAN was a lieutenant in December 1704, and was with the East Company Fairfield in May, 1705. In May 1708 he was Captain, replacing his brother, John, who resigned. He was Judge of Probate from January 1725 until his death. He was offered the position of Judge of the Fairfield County Court in May, 1725 but declined.

ELIZABETH HAWLEY was born on May 6, 1679 in Fairfield, Fairfield, CT. She married JOSEPH WAKEMAN about 1697. She married second Col. John Burr about 1727.

Will 3 Dec. 1726, proved 4 Jan. 1726/7; wife Elizabeth; son Joseph; daus. Katherine Burr, Elisabeth Burr; son Jabez; dau. Mary Wakeman; son Samuel, to be educated at College; son Stephen; gr. child Ebenezer Wakeman (his father Ebenezer had full portion); £3 for silver tumblers to Fairfield Church; £3 to Rev. Joseph Webb of Fairfield; £3 to Rev. Samuel Cooke of Stratfield.
