Natadal is reached from today's highway E134. As described in a 2001 article in the New York Times, "... from a valley flanked by pastures in which cows and sheep graze, we turn onto a one-lane byway that cuts through seas of yellow and purple wildflowers, and then onto a bumpy dirt road that meanders up the side of a mountain called Maelefjell. At road's end is a cluster of log cabins, their roofs covered with thick layers of earth from which wild grass sprouts in profusion. This is Uppigard Natadal."

And, so with this New York Times article, we have a description that could have been made 300 years earlier, when EIVIND HELGESSON lived at Natadal. The article continues, "... so it is at Uppigard Natadal. Perched high above a scattering of houses called Flatdal -- an apt name, given that the green valley bottom is indeed unusually flat for central Norway -- the farm, at an elevation of some 1,400 feet, first appeared in 1423, but may be centuries older."

Today, the farm serves as place frozen in time, offering visitors a chance to experience life as it was more than 100 years ago.
