TALLEIV HALVORSON was born in 1688 at the family farm called Skafså. It is located just south of the Skafså church. As a young man, he farmed first at Viken, about 5 km. to the north. According to the Prestemanntalet, he had use of the farm for about three years prior to 1718, the year of the census. After that, he returned to Skafså and had the use of that part of the farm called Nedre Skafså. After his father moved to Seltveit, he got the use of all of Skafså. BIRGIT GJERMUNDSDOTTER was from Vistad, west of Dalen in Mo sokn . In 1749, after TALLEIV died, she owned Skafså. The estate also included Seltveit, which had belonged to TALLEIV's father, HALVOR TALLEIVSON. She used the farm for many years before handing it down to her son, Halvor. When BIRGIT died in 1779, her estate included a mortgage on Viken. Her grandson, Talleiv (son of Halvor) was living there at the time. The Viken farm stayed in the family until 1939. |
