According to the records of the First Congregational Church of Bradford, Essex, MA, ASA TUCKER and SARAH THURSTON were married there on Feb. 23, 1759. These records are published in the Vital Records of Bradford Massachusetts to the End of the Year 1849, Topsfield Historical Society, 1907.
Bradford was originally part of Rowley, and was known as "Merrimac Lands", and "Rowley by the
Merrimack", and then simply "Merrimack". The name was changed to Bradford at a town meeting on Jan. 7,
1672, in memory of Bradford of the West Riding of Yorkshire, England. A number of the early settlers of
Rowley emigrated from that place. On Jan. 4, 1807, the town was annexed to the city of Haverhill. And,
then on Mar. 8, 1850, part of the territory was incorporated as the town of Groveland, which continues to
exist today.
