JOHN "the younger" HATCH, of Sellinge, Kent, England, the testator of 1535, born probably about 1495, died between Apr. 13, 1535, and Apr. 26, 1536. His wife, whose name is unknown, is mentioned in his will. By the will of his father, proved in 1534, he succeeded to lands and tenements in Sellinge, including a "new house," which in the following year he devised to his three sons. His five eldest children are named in the will of his father.
JOHN's father was THOMAS HATCH, his grandfather THOMAS HATCH, and his great-grandfather JOHN HATCH of
Sellinge. The Hatch name can be traced back to the Fourteenth Century to the hundred (village) of
Calehill. Calehill is west of Ashford, on the way to Tenterden.
