JOSEPH WILBORE and his wife MARY lived in the house on the Gaunte given him by his father. This was a passageway on the south of the church of St. Michaels. He is also mentioned in the will of his brother, William, in 1613 as "brother JOSEPH WILBORE deceased." He received also from his father, a grove called Hollis Grove, situated partly in Braintree, Essex, England, and partly in Bocking, Essex, England. This grove passed eventually to his widow and his four sons.
Widow MARY, or Marie as she is called in the will, made her will on Nov. 10, 1620, which was proved in 1623. In it she gives to son William the shop next the street and the little garden, also, to son JOHN and JOAN, his wife, and son Nicholas, and son William to have the rest and residue.
According to the Braintree Manor Rolls in 1622, Hollis Grove went to widow MARY as tennant and then to
her three sons, Nicholas, JOHN and William, Joseph the other son being dead. In 1642, Nicholas, JOHN and
William are admitted again to Hollis Grove.
