Several entries regarding GEORGE STRONGE are found in the Chardstock Manor Rolls:
Sept, 1596 - Paying homage to the Manor Court. July 13, 1604 - He must clean out a ditch on his property so that water can run through it freely. 1629 - He is fined 10 shillings for the illegal burning of some. uprooted apple trees, and timbers from a barn he razed. 1631, 1632, 1633 - He is fined for not cleaning his ditch. May 20, 1635 - Presentment of the death of George Stronge since the previous court. Two cottages in Chardstock town are transferred to his son, Thomas Strong. |
In his will dated Nov. 20, 1627, he calls himself a tailor, and mentions his two living sons, Walter and Thomas, and five grandchildren ... Marie, Elizabeth and Joane, daughters of Walter ... JOHN Jr., son of JOHN, Sr. ... and William, son of William presumably. His sons, William and JOHN were not living at the time GEORGE STRONGE died.
The "Stronge House" in Chardstock, Devon, England, built by George Stronge, about 1600 was
renovated in the 1990's and is open to the public.
