JOHN STRONGE lived his whole life in Chard, Somerset, England. He was married in 1609 in Chard, but there is no record of her name. Some believe she was ELEANOR DEANE, daughter of WALTER and JOAN (WALSELE) DEANE. Others claim that ELEANOR DEANE, daughter of WALTER DEANE was married to Silvester Balston at the time of her mother's death, in 1597, and that Silvester Balston was still alive in 1628, when his wife died..
JOHN's will was proved Sep. 22, 1612 and his estate was valued at 62 pounds 2 shillings. He left his son John 10 pounds, 10 pounds to his unborn child (Eleanor), 2 shillings to his brother Thomas' daughter (his godchild) and 1 shilling each to two of Thomas' other daughters. His unamed wife was sole executor and his overseers were his father George Stronge, John Bowdridge, Walter Stronge, and John Warry, who each received 4 pence.
Whomever his wife was, she married William Cogan, a tanner of South Chard, after the death of JOHN, whose will was proved July 14, 1612. She died in 1653, two years before William Cogan.
