TARJEI ORMSON was the younger of two sons born to ORM DRENGSON and HELLIE. After ORM died, HELLIE married Olav Moghus of Fyresdal. This is probably the Olav Moghus mentioned in the Fyresdal Gardsbruk of 1615. Olav purchased part of Åsland in 1615. After Olav died, TARJEI and his brother DRENG inherited Åsland. It appears that this happened during a series of trials in the 1620's. As mentioned in the Mo Bygdebok, TARJEI had Skredtveit in 1615. And, with his brother Dreng, he had allodial rights in 1624. TARJEI bought 2 mK at Haugehåtveit from Halvor Haugehåtveit, although according to the 1624 allodial census it was DRENG who had this. TARJEI married "a wealthy widow" who was an heir after Ingebjørg S.Felland died. Ingebjørg owned land, on behalf of her children, at S.Felland, Rovshus and Ringestoga. About 1618 they moved to Ringestoga, but TARJEI continued to be called Åsland when he leased Kvarvet in 1621. By 1624, they had more land, having purchased property at Byrte (Midtgarden) and Sandåk. TARJEI also had property at Skredtveit and Floten in Lid. MARGIT OLAVSDOTTER was from Tveito in Vinje. She was widowed, but the name of her first husband is unknown. By 1610, she and TARJEI were living at Åsland. Steffan E(ivind?) had the farm and may have been MARGIT's nephew by the previous marriage. In 1615, Tov Sandåk was at the farm and may have been another nephew. In 1645, she was living at Åse with her daughter, by TARJEI, and her son-in-law, Gunnar. She was a widow at that time. She was last recorded in 1651, as allodial owner of Ringestoga and S.Felland. |
