RALPH JOSSELYN and MARY BRIGHT were from Roxwell, Essex, England. He was probably born at Chignal-Smealy, Essex, about 1556. They married on May 21, 1583, and had eleven children, all born in Roxwell. Their residence was called Chalk End.
MARY preceded RALPH in death, and RALPH later married Dorothy who survived as his widow. It is unclear if Dorothy is the mother of some, or all, of the children. Three of the sons had daughters named Dorothy. In a legal dispute among several of the sons, Dorothy was referred to as the mother of Ralph and Simon.
RALPH died Mar. 19, 1631/32, and his son, Ralph, returned home to live and care for Dorothy.
