JOHN WARREN came probably in 1630 in the Winthrop Fleet with Sir Richard Saltonstall. He was also accompanied by his wife and four children. They settled in Watertown, Middlesex, MA. He was admitted Freeman there May 18, 1631, and chosen selectman 1636-40. He had a homestead and seven other lots, totalling 188 acres.
In 1635 JOHN and Abraham Browne were appointed to lay out all highways and to see that they were repaired. In 1642, he owned land amounting to about 176 acres
JOHN, though a member of the Puritan church, was in sympathy with the Quakers, and was the subject of much criticism and abuse by certain church officials. Proceedings were brought against him and Thomas Arnold in October, 1651, and each was fined 20s for an offense against the laws concerning baptism. On Apr. 4, 1654, he was fined for neglect of public worship, a total of 14 separate "Sabbaths." The fine for each occurrence was 5s, a total of £3 10s. On May 27, 1661, the houses of old Warren and good man Hammond were ordered to be searched for Quakers.
JOHN died Dec. 13, 1667, age 82 years. His will was dated Nov. 30, 1667, and proved Dec. 17, 1667. The will mentions four living children.
MARGARET died Nov. 6, 1662. Her surname has also been reported as Clear.
