The entire story of KNUT SELSTAD is yet to be uncovered. But, a story of the reknown giant does exist. It may be fact. It may be myth. The story dates back to the 1600's in Åmotsdal. KNUT was known for his physical strength. He was called Selstad-Kjempa, the "Selstad Giant." Among his challengers was Sæbyggen (a man from Setesdal). A play, about this story, was written by Telemark playwright, Sigurd Telnes. The play was performed for the first time in 2007, at the Koparvollen in the center of Seljord village. Lore has it that Selstad-Kjempa and Sæbyggen were lashed together at the waist, back-to-back. Knives were involved and a struggle ensued. Research continues on the outcome. |
