Biography

JOHN EATON, of Salisbury, Essex, MA, was a cooper. He received land in Salisbury in 1640, 1643 and 1646. He removed to Haverhill, Nov. 1646. He was a selectman in Haverhill, Essex, MA, in 1648. He married ANNE, who died Feb. 5, 1660, in Haverhill. JOHN married second, Phebe Dow, widow of Thomas Dow, Nov. 20, 1661.

JOHN died Oct. 29, 1668. His will was dated Aug. 6, 1668, and proved Apr. 13, 1669. Phebe died Nov. 3, 1672.

In 1993, an article was printed in The American Genealogist Vol. 68, No. 1, The English Origin of John Eaton (1590-1668) Salisbury and Haverhill, Massachusetts, by Douglas Richardson. This article provided three generations of parents for JOHN EATON.

ANNE, the wife of JOHN EATON, is not Anne Crossman, as is often claimed.
