JOHN ROOT was born, Feb. 26, 1607/08, in Badby, Northamptonshire, England, according to parish records. JOHN was young when his father died, and he was raised by his uncle. His uncle was a man of wealth, advanced in years, an opponent of Catholicism, and probably a member of nobility. He insisted that JOHN go into the Parliamentary army under Cromwell, to fight against Charles I and the Catholics.
JOHN had an aversion to war, and chose rather to join a company of Puritans who were going to America. When he arrived he went to Farmington, Hartford, CT, and was one of its first settlers.
MARY KILBOURNE came to America, with her parents and three sisters, on the ship Increase, departing
England on Apr. 15, 1635. She is listed as "Kilborne" on the passenger list.
