Biography

SAMUEL BISHOP was born in 1644 in Ipswich, Essex, MA, and lived there all his life. He graduated from Harvard College in 1665. SAMUEL married HESTER COGSWELL Aug. 10, 1675, in Ipswich. They resided in Ipswich, their house fronting on Meeting-house Green. SAMUEL's father, THOMAS, left an estate of five thousand pounds. SAMUEL, along with other men of Ipswich, invested largely in the purchase of land in a part of Norwich, CT, now known as Lisbon. His sons subsequently settled in Lisbon. He died in Ipswich in 1687.

She married second Thomas Burnham on Dec. 16, 1689, in Ipswich. He was the son of John and Elizabeth Burnham.
