JOSHUA BATES was the son of JOSEPH BATES, who was born in England about 1630. He was the grandson of CLEMENT BATES, who came to Hingham, Plymouth, MA, with his family on the Elizabeth in 1635.
JOSHUA and RACHEL TOWER were married, in Hingham, on Jan. 15, 1695/96, by Rev. John Norton. They lived
in the part of Hingham which is now the town of Cohasset.
