SAMUEL AYER was born Sep. 28, 1669, in Haverhill, Essex, MA, in which town he lived and was a yeoman. He was a man of prosperity and among his possessions was a negro slave, named Lot.
He succeeded his father as a member of the committee for the control of the common lands of the town.
His efficient leadership in the Indian wars did much to prevent savage outrages.
