SAMUEL GURLEY was born in Northampton, Hampshire, MA, on May 6, 1686. His father died accidentally when SAMUEL was but a year old. And when he was only 19 years of age, his mother was killed in Canada.
SAMUEL was one of the dozen Northampton men who, with their families, migrated to Coventry in the spring of 1709. NATHANIEL RUST was also in the group of twelve.
He died in Mansfield on Feb. 23, 1760. He is buried at the family burial ground in North Mansfield. The epitaph on his headstone reads, "He was distinguished for piety, and was eminently useful in the cause of religion and humanity". He was a farmer by occupation, and was prominent in the political affairs of the day.
EXPERIENCE RUST was born in Coventry, Tolland, CT, November 1693. She died in Mansfield on July 10,
1768, and is also buried in the Gurley Burial Ground, next to SAMUEL.
