EPHRAIM MOSHER purchased in Lot 13 Nine Partners, Dutchess, NY, May 15, 1752, and remained in what became the town of Washington, Dutchess, NY, until his death. He was a Tory (Loyalist) during the Revolution.
The following obituary appeared in the June 11, 1823 issue of the Poughkeepsie "Journal":
"At his residence in the town of Washington the 28th ult., Ephraim Mosher, a member of the Society of Friends, aged 96 years and 8 months. He settled in the town of Washington upwards of 70 years ago (where he has ever since resided) when the country between this and Canada was almost entire wilderness. He paid 7s 6d per acre for his farm, which is now worth £15 per acre. The life of this venerable pioneer was long and useful. He found this country a wilderness and left it a garden."
His will was dated Jan. 24, 1823, and proved June 11, 1823.
Zachariah was the Supervisor of the town of Stanford from 1797 through 1802, taking office just four
years after the town was formed, and holding office for six years.
