Biography

NATHANIEL SOUTHWORTH was born Nov. 26, 1742, in Mansfield, Tolland, CT. He was baptized there at the First Church on Dec. 5, 1742.

He married DESIRE STETSON in Mansfield, on Nov. 11, 1764. She was the daughter of SAMUEL STETSON and ANN DIMMICK of Mansfield of Mansfield. DESIRE was born in Mansfield on June 29, 1746.

The children of NATHANIEL and DESIRE were born in Mansfield, and baptized there at the First Church.

There is a headstone in the Gross Hill Cemetery west of Garrettsville, Otsego, NY, that reads,
 

Timothy Stetson, brother of Desire Stetson and uncle of RUTH, moved to Otsegotown in 1789.

Martin Southworth, a nephew of RUTH, and son of Ozias, was born Mar. 30, 1816, in Otsego County.

Clarissa Y. Southworth, a niece of RUTH, and daughter of Ozias, married David Packer, son of DAVID BRADLEY PACKER and REBECCA NICHOLS.

Samuel Stetson, brother of RUTH, his wife and children, are buried in Burlington, Otsego, NY, in a small cemetery just off the West Burlington-Garretsville State Highway, on the west side, on the old Cornell Farm, behind the old Holdredge school, back by some trees. This cemetery is about 2-1/2 miles north of Garrettsville.

Wife of Thomas Dimmock, cousin of RUTH, died in Burlington, Otsego, NY, in 1819.

Gurley Southworth, nephew of RUTH, and son of Gurley, was buried at Gledhill Cemetery near Garrettsville, Otsego, NY, in 1825. He moved to Otsego about 1804.
