Biography

In the year 1805, DAVID ANDERSON moved from Massachusetts, with his family, to Middlebury, Wyoming, NY. Deacon Anderson conducted the first religious meeting held in the town of Middlebury at the house of Deacon Henry Ewell.

Two years later he removed to Le Roy, settling some two miles southeast of the village on what was then known as the Weld farm. As there was no choice in those days for a young man but hard work, DAVID and his sons no doubt spent many a day felling trees from the dense forests in the region around Le Roy.

On Feb. 7, 1812, the First Presbyterian Church of Le Roy was organized. Religious services had been held in Le Roy since 1800, but in 1812 the membership was increased by the admission of local adherents of the Congregational denomination. DAVID ANDERSON was the first to be ordained deaconate.
