An article in the 2003 volume of The American Genealogist, authored by Neil D. Thompson, offers evidence that WILLIAM JEPSON is the father of JOHN JEPSON. WILLIAM and AGNES COBBET were married at the storied St. Mary's Church in Guildford, Surrey, England, on July 24, 1592.
The will of son, Richard, identifies JOHN JEPSON as, "my brother in New England." Other siblings, mentioned in the will, tie the family together.
St Mary’s Church on Quarry Street, in the center of Guildford, is both the oldest church and the oldest building in the town. Its tower is of Saxon origin and was therefore built before the Norman Conquest of 1066. Over the next two centuries the rest of the church was built, and the structure that can be seen today has changed very little over the past 750 years. The church also has connections with the famous writer, Lewis Carroll who preached from its pulpit and whose funeral service was held there.
