ABRAHAM ANDRUSS died in 1729, in Waterbury, New Haven, CT, at approximately 77 years of age. He was a man of note of Waterbury, and served as one of the town's first townsmen (or selectmen). His house lot was west of John Welton's lot. Later he built a house near the mill. REBECCA CARRINGTON is believed to be the sister of John Carrington of Mattatuck, and daughter of JOHN CARRINGTON of Wethersfield. Their son, Abraham, was said to be first child born in Mattatuck. Mattatuck began as a land grant given to settlers from Farmington. The village was settled it 1678 and gained town status in 1686, at which time it was renamed Waterbury. An article in the Winter 2015 issue of The NEHG Register, by Barry E. Hinman proposes a correction to the parentage of ABRAHAM, as previously reported by several recognized genealogists (including Henry Bronson of Waterbury, Donald Lines Jacobus, the Barbour Collection). He concluded that the Father of ABRAHAM ANDRUSS was actually JOHN ANDRUSS, not Francis Andruss. |
