HUGH MOSHER first appears in Rhode Island records with his purchase on June 29, 1660, of land in Westerly, Washington, RI. The name of REBECCA MOSHER appears in 1680 in the membership list of the Tiverton Baptist Church.
HUGH was admitted freeman of Portsmouth, Newport, RI, in 1669. Town records show he was living there in 1668, 1670, 1673, 1676, and 1678. In 1680 he was pastor of the Tiverton Baptist Church, which served Tiverton and Little Compton, in Rhode Island and Dartmouth, MA. Hugh was living in Portsmouth in 1685, based on statements in the will of John Harndell.
REBECCA died in January, 1707/08, in Dartmouth, Bristol, MA. HUGH married second, Feb. 25, 1707/08, Sarah Butcher, widow of the Rev. John Harding. She died in Newport in 1716.
Deeds show HUGH as a resident of Dartmouth as late as 1708, with one in 1707 giving his occupation as
blacksmith. A deed of Dartmouth land, dated Mar. 1, 1709, gives Newport as his residence.
