RICHARD LANPHEAR, a citizen of London, in his noncupative will made Aug. 12, 1665, named his wife AVERINA, and his son GEORGE in New England, and mentioned without naming them, six other children living in England.
The will was written during a time when the plague was running rampant in London. This plague is mentioned in the will, which suggests RICHARD may have been near death when he wrote the will.
It is not known if RICHARD lived in the city. The burial records for St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Westminster, London, show no record of a burial in August 1655.
Although often seen as "Lamphere", Lanphear seems to be the spelling used by members of the family.
Parish records of St. Michaels, in Southampton, show the marriage to have taken place there Oct. 27,
1639. They must have moved to London shortly thereafter, as their children were baptized at St. Martin-in-the-Fields (located at present day Trafalgar Square).
