There were four men by the name of THOMAS BARNES in the colonies by the mid 17th century. They are identified by the places they lived: Thomas Barnes of (1) Hingham, (2) Marlboro, (3) Hartford, and (4) New Haven. This biography is about THOMAS BARNES of New Haven. He later lived in Middletown, Middlesex, CT.
THOMAS BARNES came to America in 1635, with his family, and eventually settled in New Haven, New Haven, CT, as a young child. He was living in East Haven, CT, when he signed the Connecticut colony constitution in 1644. He was too young to sign the original colony constitution of 1639. But, his name appears as a signer, in July, 1644, to the revised and enlarged constitution.
It is said that he married twice. His first wife was MARY. After her death he married a second time to Elizabeth. According to the land records of Middletown, Middlesex, CT, Elizabeth died there on Jan. 4, 1689/90.
The Middletown records show that THOMAS died there on June 10, 1691.
