Three Thurstons are thought to have come to America sometime between 1635, the first year of the settlement of Newbury, Essex, MA, and 1648, when it is know that Edward, one of the three, married Elizabeth Mott in Rhode Island. Their relationship is unknown, but two, DANIEL and John, quite possibly were brothers. John came on the ship Mary Ann, in 1636, from Wrentham, Suffolk, England.
An Elder Daniel Thurston married Aug. 29, 1648, Mrs. Ann Lightfoot, widow of Francis Lightfoot, in the town of Lynn, Essex, MA. It appears that the elder Daniel was the uncle of DANIEL THURSTON, and in fact had adopted the younger DANIEL. In his will of 1665, the elder Daniel devised all his property after the death of his wife to the younger DANIEL, whom he called his "kinsman." In addition, a militia document exists which states, "Young Daniel Thurston is under his uncle."
DANIEL married ANNE PELL, Oct. 20, 1655. She is the daughter of JOSEPH PELL, of Lynn. Lynn is also the home of Mrs. Ann Lighfoot, which adds a little more probability to the conjecture of the preceding paragraph.
DANIEL was a trooper in Captain Appleton's company, and was paid £4 10s, Jun. 24, 1676.
