ANDREW KENNEDY is known to be the father of EDWARD KENNEDY from the Family Bible. ANDREW and his wife, LYDIA, were in the 1820 and 1840 censuses for Edmeston, Otsego, NY. ANDREW was living with his son, Nelson, at the time of the 1860 census. ANDREW and LYDIA are buried in Jennings Cemetery, just north of Robinson's Corners (on Highway 80 near the Edmeston-Burlington town line). Five other family members are buried along side them. This biography includes some facts about Kennedys who lived in Edmeston as early as 1794. There is evidence that they are all from the same family, but at the same time there is no absolute proof. A further discussion of the parentage of ANDREW can be found in the biography for JAMES KENNEDY. Andrew T. Kennedy The 1880 U.S. Census enumerates the family of Andrew P.[sic] Kennedy. He and his wife, Mary, are said to be 71 years of age. A third family member, Leroy, is 66 years old and is listed as Andrew's brother. The birthplaces of the parents of Andrew and Leroy are given as Connecticut and Rhode Island. This suggests the posibility that LYDIA is LYDIA CARPENTER of Providence, RI. Andrew and Mary Sheldon married Sep. 13, 1830, in Edmeston. They had one child, Theodore, in Edmeston before moving to Lorain County, OH. They had seven more children and eventually moved to Knox County, IL. In the 1850 Edmeston census, Berna Stevens was living with the family. Berna was related to Freelove (Stevens) Kennedy, wife of William Kennedy. In 1860, ANDREW was living with Nelson and his family. LYDIA had died in 1856. Leroy Kennedy Leroy married Polly Carey, from New York. They moved to Knox County, IL. In the 1880 census for Knox township, Knox, IL, Leroy was living with Andrew Kennedy (Jr.) and his wife Mary. Leroy was identified as the brother of Andrew. Jennings Cemetery, Edmeston, NY Seven Kennedys are buried in this small, well kept cemetery on Robinson Road, north of Robinson's Corner (Highway 80, just west of the Edmeston-Burlington line). The gravesites are all contiguous to one another.
