NEW 'PHONE LINE
The Montana Star Telephone Co.
Will Build Culbertson-Nashua
Line at Once
The Stockholders of the Montana Star Tel. Co. met Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock in Stephens Hall in
pursuance of the special call published in the Searchlight.
Over two-thirds of the stockholders were present, either in person or by proxy. The meeting was
held for the special purpose of voting on the resolution to increase the stock of the Mont. Star
Telephone Co. from $20,000 to $50,000 and upon being put to a vote was carried unanimously.
The directors of the Company held a meeting in the afternoon and decided to begin the
construction of the line from Culbertson to Nashua as soon as the necessary material can be secured.
The sale of the extra shares of the stock will furnish ample capital and it is expected that the
poles will be delivered and construction commenced within 30 days.
The line will extend from Culbertson west along the Great Northern Railway right of way to
Nashua and will there connect with the Moore Telephone Line with headquarters in Glascow. This will give
Culbertson through telephone service with all points west.
The new line will be heavier and stronger than the Culbertson-Redstone line. Larger poles and better
wire is to be used. The Culbertson-Redstone line is known to be one of the best in the northwest,
so when the two lines are completed and connected the Redstone-Culbertson-Nashua line will be the
equal of any system in the eastern states.
O. M. Thorstenson, General Superintendent of the Company informed
the reported that a force of thirty-five men would be put on the construction work as soon as the poles
arrive and the work would be pushed to completion by the first of November, or at latest by the fifteenth.
The construction work will be commenced at the Nashua end of the line in order to complete that
end of the line for the use of the U.S. Reclamation Service which is working on the reservation. As
stations along the Great Northern Railway are reached, toll stations will be installed which will be
connected with the Moore system and an income will at once be established.
When the complete line is finished from Redstone to Nashua, with the big local exchange in Culbertson,
and all put in operation, there will undoubtedly be sufficient income to place the stock considerably
above the present par value.
The stockholders who were present at the meeting on Tuesday and are cognizant of the efficient and
economical management of the present board of directors and general superintendent, were much pleased
with the prospect of the company as a paying investment, and most of them will take one or more
shares of the new stock to be issued.
