English translation

The name Jordet or Gerdi means a fenced piece of land.

In a lawsuit between Brokka and Jordet in 1617 we hear about Karl Jordet. Knut Augundson of Brokka should have taken the abandoned farm Nerisjordet from him without law and judgment. The Brokka folks testified that they believed this was another abandoned farm named Kyrkjeteigen. Olvar Eikeland testified that Kyrkjeteigen was an abandoned farm between Heggli and Nerisjordet.

English translation

Torjus Karlson Jordet 1a was one of the large land owners in Skafså. Already in 1603 he had land at Jordet, Tveiten, Klevi, Berge, Nestebø, Fjell and Bergland. He paid taxes on 7 tnK in 1611 and had at most 15½ tnK. The 1624 allodial land book shows that he had allodial property at Jordet (4 tnK), Grimdalen (½ tnK), Nordigard Hylland (3 tnK), Berge in Øyfjell (½ tnK) and Åmli in Valle (1½ mK). He had purchased-property at Sørigard Hylland (2 tnK) and mortgages at Tjønn (1½ mK), Verpestøyl (1 tnK) and Espeli (1½ tnK).

Other than this large land ownership there is not much we know about Torjus. He probably had one son who inherited everthing after he died.
