Biography

Orm Drengson inherited 2/3 of Åsland after his father died, but he probably had all of it for his own use. Torbjørg, his sister, is supposed to have had the other third. His children are known to have been around both Åsland and Midjås.

After Orm died, Hellie married Olav Moghus of Fyresdal. In 1614, Olav purchased part of Åsland, but when Olav died the land passed on to Orm's sons, Dreng and Tarjei.

N. 1526-1544

Dreng Ormson Åsland 1a fekk in 1536 sett opp eit brev på garden. Her hadde vore brann og alle dei gamle breva hadde brunne opp.

English translation

In 1536, Dreng Ormson Åsland 1a received a title drawn up on the farm. There had been a fire here and all the old letters had burned. The court produced evidence that he had 24 markebol (8 tunner grain) at Åsland at the deserted farms Hedebø (Heibø) and Bjørnemyr and the fishing lakes Movatn and Breidevatn. His father had purchased some from Olav Bø, and he had purchased Skremestøyl from Åsbjørn Gunvaldson for a horse and a broad axe. Dreng had also inherited all of N.Midjås and 4 markebol at Rykkeli from his father. This he traded in 1544 to a Tarjei «Agir» for 3 markebol at Jordet under Åsland and the fishing lake Optevatn. This deal resulted in significant consequences a couple generations later. Around 1600 it was Gunnuv N.Midjås 1 who had Midjås and Rykkeli. In 1591 and later, after he died, Ånund Homme of Valle brought suit against the heirs for these lands. Some years later, after Olav Moghus died, the heirs sued Talleiv Rygnestad and coheirs over these lands. How this situation was, does not come forth from the documents.

From 1577 a paper is saved which tells that Gunnuv Asbjørnson sold Åsmund Talleivson the one markebol at Jordet under Åsland, which Dreng Åsland gave his wife Signe, for a three-portion spoon and a four-portion spoon and a wooden handled «tjeld». So, Dreng's wife's name is Signe.

Orm Drengson Åsland 2a inherited 2/3 of Åsland after his father died, but he probably used it all. It was his children who were found at the inherited residences around Åsland and Midjås. Torbjørg, his sister, was supposed to have 1/3 of the farm. It was her grandchildren who would settle near Åsland.
