Deacon Edward Collins

Deacon Edward Collins, oldest son of JOHN COLLINS, was baptized in Bramford, Suffolk, England, on Mar. 25, 1603, and died in Charleston, Massachusetts, on April 9, 1869, aged 86. He married in Framlingham, Suffolk, England, on Nov. 20, 1628, Martha Baylie, daughter of Francis Baylie. She was baptized there on Feb. 20, 1609/10, and died in Charleston on Mar. 22, 1699/1700, aged 90.

The family emigrated from England to Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1638. They were affiliated with the First Church of Christ in Cambridge. The first pastor of the church was Rev. THOMAS HOOKER, who left the church in 1635, to settle in Hartford, Connecticut. All four sons of Edward and Martha were Harvard graduates. Two became ministers, while two daughters married ministers.
