Biography

Records of SÅVI are first found in 1615 in the odelsmanntalet [census of allodial owners], where he is listed as owner and user of Underdal. That same year he is listed on the matrikkelen [tax rolls] for Tveiten, a sub-farm of Midjås Nordre. In 1617, he got all of Midjås Nordre in a trade with Olvar Lauvvik and his son Roald Bergland. He also obtained some smaller deserted farms, including Lille Tveiten, Haugestøyl, Rugdeli and Rykkeli.

The name of SÅVI's father is not found in the legal records, but it is quite certain that he was the son of LUTTAN KNUTSON, who is mentioned under Underdal 1 in the Mo Bygdebok.

From 1624 to 1626, SÅVI was a church warden. Then, there are no records of him until 1647, when he appears in the matrikkelen [tax rolls]. He is listed as the heir who had the farm. Presumably his wife had died by that time. His probate was held as late as 1686.

6.      Såvi
N. 1618-1640

English translation

In 1617 Olvar Lauvvik and his son Roald Bergland traded away N.Midjås with the meadows and the deserted farms Tveiten, Lille Tveiten, Haugestøyl, Rugdeli and deserted Rykkeli to Såvi Midjås in return for 7 markebol at Hægeland, Vrådal. Såvi had earlier lived at Underdal 4 and had probably traded a farm with Gunnar. There was also a Såvi Tveiten 3 who had ½ tnK at Reindal in 1615.

The name of Såvi's father is not mentioned in those sources, but inheritance of Hægeland and farm name create little doubt that he was a son of Luttan Knutson who is mentioned under Underdal 1. Where Luttan lived is not known.

After the trade in 1617 Såvi and his heirs had the entire farm as allodial property. He was a church warden in the period 1624 to 1626 but was missing from the sources in 1640, and in the 1647 matrikkelen [tax roll] it is the heirs who had the farm. His wife was probably dead, for it seems that Såvi used Lofthus under Bakken 1 some years after that time. Probate was held after he died as late as 1686. The allodial property by that time was Midjås including Tveiten 2 tn 2 mK and Reini 7½ quarter tnK.

4.      Såvi
N. 1615

Me finn han ikkje i skattelistene, men dei finst ikkje for dei åra.

English translation

Såvi Underdal was owner and user of Underdal in the 1615 odelsmanntalet [census of allodial owners]. We do not find him in the skattelistene [tax rolls], but they do not exist for that year. It is rather certain that this was Såvi N.Midjås who is mentioned near there.

3.      Såvi
N. 1615

English translation

The 1615 matrikkelen [tax roll] names Såvi Tveiten. He had ½ tnK in Reindal and fits as the man who got all of Midjås by a trade of real estate in 1617. Because of that Såvi became the farmer of Midjås 6, (and) probably also Tveiten. Before that he lived at Underdal 4.
