Biography

TONE ÅNUNDSDOTTER, from Momrak in Fyresdal, was first married to OLAV TORJUSSON and lived at Jordet. When OLAV died around 1640, TONE married TALLEIV KNUTSON. They stayed at Jordet until he died sometime before 1660. TONE then married, for the third time, Herjus Arneson of Grimdalen.

TONE continued to live at Grimdalen. She must have died before 1677, as the farm belonged to Olav Gunsteinson by then. Herjus had no children, so the farm went to Olav, his brother-in-law.

N. 1609-1622

N. 1624-1640

Vetle og Halvor bruka før me finn Knut her i 1609. Knut åtte heile garden, 4 tnK, i 1615.

Vetle and Halvor used [Kolkjøn] before we find Knut there in 1609. Knut owned all of the farm, 4 tnK, in 1615. Kjetil Bilstad 3 had Kolkjøn in 1603, so Knut was probably one of his sons.

Knut died about 1622 and his widow Jorunn had the farm for many years. In 1624 she and her children owned allodial property at Kolkjøn and Breivik (½ tnK) and purchased property at Breivik (½ tnK) and Tveit (1½ mK). It is difficult to make any clear sense about descendants, but after the distribution of the land property we can guess at some.

Dei åtte i 1651 ikring 26½ tnK jordegods i 17 gardar.

English translation

The widow Tone Ånundsdtr was still young when Olav died around 1640. She married the second time to Talleiv who was one of the very large landowners at the time. Perhaps he came from Kolkjøn 6? In 1651, they had about 26½ tnK land property at 17 farms. He probably died sometime before 1660 and his widow Tone Ånundsdtr married for the third time to Herjus Arneson Grimdalen 4.

English translation

Although the farm is named in the 1585 skinnskatten (skin taxes), we find no people in the lensrekneskapane (sheriff's account) before 1647. By that time it was Talleiv Jordet 6 who also had the farm. After him we find Olav for a time.

Tone Ånundsdtr was the widow after Talleiv Jordet 6 died. After he was dead and his son had become the farmer of Jordet she farmed Grimdalen during 1661. We find she married the third time to Herjus Arneson (1627-). Already in 1653 Herjus was the owner of 1 mK in Kiland. He had also 3 quarter tnK in Metveit in 1658. From 1659 he is listed with land property of Tone, so it seems as if they were already married then. Perhaps he was a guardian for her for a time.

Tone outlived her third husband also, but was dead in 1677 when Olav Gunsteinson Brokke got 45 rd for all rights and inheritance after Herjus died. Olav was married to his sister and since he had no child, the estate was hers.

6.      Ånund
N. 1609-1640

I 1603 finn me ei Sissel på Momrak. Same året hadde Gunleik Graver og 1 tnK i Momrak.

English translation

In 1603 we find a Sissel at Momrak. She was a major land owner with 2 tn 1 mK at the farmer in addition to 2 tnK at Aslestad and ½ tnK at "Flodden" (Floten i Mannås?). For that she paid 4½ ort [1/5 spesiedaler] 4 skilling [1/120 spesiedaler] in allodial tax. The same years Gunleik Graver also had 1 tnK at Momrak. Ånund Kjetilson took over the farm. From 1611 he is listed as the freeholder on the tax rolls. That year he had 1 tnK at Momrak, 1 tnK at Hærstad, ½ tnK at Tortveit, ½ tnK Songedalstveiten, 4 mK at Håtveit, 4 mK at Oppsund and 1 mK at Lie. Of these only Lie and Momrak were allodial property. In time Ånund grew this land property to nearly 7 tnK, so he got along fine.

Ånund had only a small part of the whole farm. In 1615 Gunleik Graver, Talleiv Lundehall and Jørund Flekstveit were joint owners with their own tunne [tunne = about 1 acre] wheat at the farm. Nils Skattør had ½ tnK. The group owned about the same in 1624, but Gunnuv Graver had his father's inheritance, and Nils was living at Songedal. His ownership was then only ½ tnK at each. Gunhild Spokkeli also had a half tunne of land. Probate was held after Ånund died, as late as 1668. His wife was Torbjørg Gunleiksdtr, and she had 2 tnK at Momrak, 2 tnK at Songedal, 1 tnK at Lie in Veum and ½ tnK at Håtveit in Nissedal.
