Biography

EDMUND CHAMBERLAIN was born in England, and married first on Jan 4, 1646, Mary Turner. They lived in Roxbury, Suffolk, MA. She died at Roxbury on Dec. 6, 1669. EDMUND married second, HANNAH WITTER, on June 22, 1670, at Chelmsford, Suffolk, MA. She was the widow of Robert Burden. Robert Burden died on June 16, 1667.

The first record of EDMUND in America was the recording of his first marriage by Rev. John Eliot, in 1646. He resided in Woburn from 1649 to 1654, and on a farm next to William Chamberlain in Billerica, in 1655. On June 11, 1656, Mary was admitted to the church at Chelmsford, as "Mary Chamberlin wife of EDMOND CHAMBLIN dismissed to us fro. the Church of Ooburne ."

EDMUND was Freeman at Chelsmford, May 3, 1655. He resided there until 1669, and next appeared at Malden, at the time of his second marriage in 1670, where he remained until 1676, when he removed to Roxbury, and there rented the Griffith Bowen farm from 1677 to 1682. He was a "tything man" at Muddy River on Apr. 25, 1681, and was on the Muddy River rates Dec. 13, 1691.

The family removed to New Roxbury, now Woodstock, Windham, CT, as early as 1693. EDMUND was deacon of the first church in Woodstock by Nov. 23, 1693, and continued as deacon until his death in 1696.
