Biography

GERSHOM EWELL was born Nov. 14, 1650, in Scituate, Plymouth, MA. He lived in the Cold Spring area of Plymouth, later called Dea. Merritt's place. He was evidently a man of large business affairs. In the Register's office at Plymouth many real estate deeds are recorded in which he is named as one of the parties.

He was engaged in maritime business apparently, as there is a record of a suit brought against him for freight charges to Boston. He also was a purchaser of shares of the Cohassett tract of land in the north part of Scituate near Cold Spring.
