Biography

SARAH HILL was born Aug. 21, 1735, in Greenfield Hill, Fairfield, CT, and baptized there Sep. 30, 1735. She married WILLIAM WAKEMAN on June 21, 1753. In January, 1778, WILLIAM obtained the rank of ensign in the Seventh Company of the Fourth Regiment.

WILLIAM died Mar. 22, 1802, and SARAH died the following year.

Sarah Wakeman married John Alvord on Nov. 11, 1772, In Greenfield Hill. He was the son of Elisha and Hannah (Goodsell) Alvord. During the Revolutionary War, John served as sergeant. Sarah died six years after the marriage on Apr. 26, 1779, at Greenfield Hill. She is buried in a marked grave in the Greenfield Hill Cemetery. She had two sons, John and David.

Seven months after Sarah's death, John married Abigail Banks, by whom he had six children. Abigail died at Greenfield on Mar. 2, 1831, and John died there on July 3, 1845. Both are buried at Greenfield Hill Cemetery in marked graves.

Abigail Wakeman married Lyman Bradley, son of John Bradley. A few years after Abigail's death, Lyman married Grizzel Thorp Dimon, the widow of Moses Dimon. Lyman died at Easton, CT, Sep. 8, 1822, and by the account of one historian committed suicide by hanging himself.

Jabez was born in Greenfield Hill on May 10, 1761, and was baptized there on June 28, 1761. On June 21, 1781, he married Clara Banks, who was born March 10, 1761. Jabez and Clara lived in Redding, CT, for at least 16 years, before moving to Fallsburgh in Sullivan County, NY. Jabez was still living there in 1833
