Biography

NOAH and RUTH were married in North Bergen, Genesee, NY, and all their children were born there. RUTH died Mar. 27, 1844.

NOAH married second, in 1845, Rhoda Barker. About 1855, Rhoda moved to Lansing, Ingham, MI, with Alroy. Alroy apprenticed as a cabinet maker and built a successful furniture business in North Lansing, with his uncle Joseph W. Barker (brother of Rhoda). Alroy married Elizabeth Yeiter in 1869. He was mayor of Lansing in 1894. Alroy is buried at Mount Hope Cemetery, Lansing.

NOAH married once more, to Cornelia, sometime before 1860, as reflected in the 1860 census. Cornelia was the widow of George Shattuck. Her two sons lived with NOAH. The oldest son, Delos, was captured in the Civil War and imprisoned at Salisbury Prison in North Carolina. Near the end of the war the atrocities at Salisbury rivaled those at Andersonville, GA. Delos died there Jan. 9, 1865. He is buried at West Sweden Cemetery, next to his father. Cornelia's youngest son, Eugene, married and had two sons. He and his family are buried at Mt. Rest Cemetery in Bergen.

Cornelia may be the sister of Mary Ann Clapp, who was married to Dwight Lyman, of Byron, Genesee, NY. After NOAH died, Cornelia can be found living in Batavia, Genesee, NY, in the 1880 census. In the 1900 census, she is living with Dwight Lyman and identified as sister-in-law.

NOAH is buried at West Sweden Cemetery, Sweden, Monroe, NY. The cemetery is located on West Sweden Rd. just north of Ladue Road in Sweden township. His infant son, Noah, is buried next to him.
