Place St. Michel
Located on Boulevard St. Michel at the Seine, the St. Germain district (arrondissement 6) is to the west and the Latin Quarter district (arrondissement 5) is to the east. This is the oldest part of Paris.
The 75' fountain in the middle was designed by 19th century architect Davioud and represents St. Michel slaying the dragon. It was built in 1860.
The Germans fought the Resistance here in 1944. There are plaques located around the Place memorializing those who died here.
Rue de la Harpe ("the harp")
On this street is our hotel. This is the Greek area of Paris, and home to many
Greek restaurants and pizzerias.
Rue de la Huchette
This street was the setting for Elliot Paul's "The Last Time I Saw Paris", (1942). Paul lived at #28, the Hôtel Mont-Blanc

Rue Chat-qui-Pêche
This is said to be the shortest, narrowest street in the world, containing not one door and only a handful of windows. Before the quay was built, the Seine sometimes flooded the cellars of the houses, and legend has it that an enterprising cat took advantage of its good fortune and went fishing in the confines of the cellars--hence the street's name, which means "Street of the Cat Who Fishes."
Boulevard St. Michel - (nickname "Boul' Mich")
less than a kilometer away is Sorbonne, originally a theological school, but now
it is the most famous of the 13 campuses of the University of Paris. This school, founded 750 years ago, is world reknown. The students are a common sight on the Boulevard.
